From November 2012 to May 2013, The NYC Area of NA participated in an informal field test of some aspects of the Service System Proposal currently under development at NAWS. (For a comprehensive explanation of the SSP, please visit http://na.org/?ID=servsys.) Our experiences were summarized in the attached report, which was submitted to NAWS in September 2013.
The response from NAWS was as speedy as it was positive:
…thank you very much for taking the time to compile and send us your report. We are in the midst of summarizing the formal part of the field test, while also trying to keep track of communities like NYC that have participated in a less formal manner, so your timing is excellent. We particularly appreciate the clarity of your report and find the conclusions very informative. The World Board will see your report and will certainly contact you if they have further questions.
We certainly agree that the project has stimulated some dialogue about the broader topic of service provision within NA, and that this has ramifications far beyond the initial scope of the project. As we move forward in the project we would be happy to hear from you with any further news from NYC, or if we are able to help in any way with your service efforts.
If any participating members of this Area would like to submit their own personal SSP experiences and responses to NAWS, please don’t hesitate to email your feedback to firstname.lastname@example.org.
